1930s Woman's Costume

I designed and made this costume for the character Belvidera in my adaptation of Thomas Otway’s 17th Century play, Venice Preserv’d, which I set in 1930s Belfast. Venice Preserv’d is a tale about people who are oppressed and alienated by powerful forces and are looking for ways to free themselves.

My design for Belvidera’s costume fabric was inspired by the scaffolding that was used in the Belfast docks when building the ships at the Harland and Wolff shipyard.
